Class review

This class was thoroughly enjoyable. I particularly enjoyed the review of basic technology hardware and software. Some of the knowledge I gained was exposure to software that I will use for my dissertation (Zotero), interview presentations, (Vue), and creative energies, (Wordle).

The laid back approach to the course was refreshing. Well prepared.

Thank you!

The comparison article was insightful. Since technology is consistently 'new', the information provided assisted me in developing a more informed opinion of what I need from software.

While ergonomics might not be the most important aspect of data analysis, user friendly software is essential. If I do not feel comfortable navigating around a program, I am not inclined to use it. Things to consider are: How does the program actually 'look'? Will it work on Windows or will it feel like a Mac?

Aesthetics aside, the search option is also critical. Will the software allow me to develop queries that I want? can I combine searches? Will it be precise?

Speed and stability were also presented as software elements to consider. To me, the stability of a program far out weighs its' speed.

VUE is AWESOME. I was shocked at how easy it was to begin using the software after it was downloaded. It seems so much more streamlined and 'user friendly' than powerpoint!
My immediate thoughts regarding how I can use this in my life excited me! When interviewing for potential jobs, this software can make your presentation spring to life, while demonstrating one's tech savvy ability. Also, when begging the initial phases of a dissertation, VUE can aid in grouping thoughts and ideas into a more coherent form.
